Effective January 1, 2018, Randolph Communications will cease carriage of WBTV-CBS, our Channel 2 in the Greensboro DMA.
Every three years, local cable providers across the country like Randolph Communications must negotiate fees with national broadcasters for the rights to carry signals from programmers like ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX. Our goal in these negotiations is to secure the lowest possible rates for you and ensure uninterrupted coverage. This round of negotiations has been extremely frustrating.
Unfortunately, we find ourselves unable to continue carriage of WBTV-CBS, Channel 2, in the Greensboro DMA due to extremely high fees over the next three years. The broadcaster has proposed an increase of eight times our current rate to provide the signal for this one channel. That increase is unacceptable.
Although we have attempted to negotiate in good faith, the company insists you pay more or face a signal blackout. However, you will still be able to watch CBS programming on WFMY-CBS, Channel 9 in Greensboro DMA.
We are truly sorry for the inconvenience and will continue to work to negotiate the best possible rates for our customers.
