streaming devices
Once you choose your streaming service, you need a way to connect that service to your television over the internet. If you have a smart TV, you will want to choose a streaming platform that your TV supports. If you want to stream on a standard TV you will need to purchase a device. Streaming devices like Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire stick make it possible. Smart TV's have built in capabilities without the need for an additional streaming device.
For best performance use ethernet or wired internet connection, with your device. WI-FI may work but a Ethernet will be more reliable. It isn't affected by walls, distance or other interference.
Devices like Roku Ultra, Apple TV and most smart TV's have an Ethernet port built in to it. While these devices cost more up front, they will give you the best streaming experience. inexpensive devices like the streaming sticks that plug directly into your TV typically don't come with Ethernet equipment and will use a WI-FI connection to stream. When deciding on which streaming device to purchase look at the features and capabilities, some devices limit the resolution and quality of video.

FAQ's
Why is Rc disconnecting TV service?
There are many factors driving our decision to discontinue MyTV , but the main reason is simply this: we were not able to make TV profitable.
With TV rates increasing each year, the nationwide trend we are seeing is more video subscribers increasing their broadband package and turning to less expensive steaming options.
is Randolph communications closing?
Absolutely not. Randolph Communications is not going anywhere. We are, and always will be, your local communications provider.
Will I lose any additional service?
We still offer all of the same quality services that you can enjoy like phone, high-speed internet, wireless, home security, computer, and networking services, website design and web hosting and more.
Will My Other services go up?
Your bill will decrease by dropping MyTV. Your other services will not have a price increase.
When will myTV service be canceled?
RC will end our MyTV offering on November 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.
What will i do with my old myTv equipment?
Once MyTV is officially cancelled, the equipment will no longer be useful. You may drop off your MyTV equipment at our business office for recycling. Our Asheboro office is open M-F 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our Liberty office is open M-F 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed from 1:30-2:00.
Will i need different equipment to stream?
Yes. To stream video on your TV, you will need a smart TV or a streaming device to add to your existing TV. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait on the professionals to install your new device. The installation process is generally simplified so that you or a tech-savvy family member can handle the installation and setup. A Roku or Amazon Firestick device is recommended.
Will I need to Increase my Internet speed to stream?
Possibly. A typical streaming option requires at least 10Mbps (per device, per stream) for optimum viewing. The more the speed, the better your viewing experience. Keep in mind, the more gadgets you have connected while streaming can interfere and cause buffering if you don’t have enough bandwidth. With Randolph Communication’s new speeds set at a minimum of 50Mbps, you would have plenty of bandwidth for any streaming option you choose.

Static IP address is an IP address that doesn't change. It is useful if you host a website from home, have a file server in your network, are using networked printers, are running a print server, or if you use a remote access program. Because a static IP address never changes, other devices always know exactly how to contact a device that uses one. One time fee for installation and setup is $65.
Wire Maintenance
If you don't have a bundle then we strongly suggest that you choose one of our wire maintenance plans, to avoid possible unnecessary and costly repair charges on existing inside wiring and jacks. Wire Maintenance plans covers the costs to repair inside wiring and/or jacks as well as any service or labor charges to isolate the problem to customer-owned equipment.

Managed WI-FI Starting at $4.99
WI-FI is no longer an optional "EXTRA" for businesses. It has become a critical component of the connectivity. Just think about how many devices you are using in your home or business. Stop fighting with your wireless network and battling device connectivity. There are so many things that can interfere with your signal.
Randolph Communications installation is to demarcation point. Installation does not include inside wiring or telephone jacks. Fiber does not keep your phone on when the power is out. A battery backup will supply power for a period of time. Additional battery back-ups are available for purchase. Additional base unit(8hr) is $110.94, Flex Battery(4hr) is $53.47/ea. Speeds listed are maximum attainable download and upload speeds and are best effort delivered through a wired connection to the customer premise. Actual speeds may vary depending upon a variety of factors, many of which are related to the environment at the customer premise and the customer owned devices connecting to the broadband service such as wireless, device capabilities, number of devices and interferences all impact internet speed connections. For best performance use a hardwired connection.
Fiber To the Home
Want Faster Internet Speeds? Then You Need FIBER!
While many communications providers brag about utilizing "fiber" in their networks, unless they provide it all the way to the home, they do not compare. Randolph Communications is proving High Speed fiber optics all the way to your home with Fiber Connect. Fiber to the home (FTTH), or Randolph Fiber, is the delivery of a communications signal over fiber optics to a home or business. This fiber will replace the existing copper infrastructure such as telephone wires and coax cable. Fiber to the home is a method of providing higher bandwidth to consumers and businesses, which enables more robust video, Internet and voice services.
Connecting homes directly to fiber optic cable enables large improvements in the bandwidth that can be provided to consumers. Current fiber optic technology can provide two-way transmission speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second. Further, as cable modem and DSL providers are struggling to squeeze increments of higher bandwidth out of their technologies, ongoing improvements in fiber optic equipment are constantly increasing available bandwidth without having to change the fiber. That’s why fiber networks are said to be “future proof.”

STAGES OF FIBER INSTALLATION:
Our Fiber Story:
Randolph Communications Cooperative territory spans over seven counties, which means we serve 534.46 square miles of rural communities. Our goal has always been and continues to be providing the best customer service to our customers with the most advanced technology.
Some companies choose not to provide Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) to their customers. However, that is not the case at Randolph Communications. Your Cooperative believes in you having the best. Did you know that 11,620 addresses already have fiber by them at this time? We still have a ways to go so your patience is important.
To summarize our fiber plan, your Cooperative began constructing transport fiber in 1998. In 2011, we put the plow in high gear to really ramp up our FTTH efforts. To date, we have invested over $42 Million in our fiber plant.
Will it take time to get to everyone? Yes. How soon will the Coop be 100% fiber fed? To cover our entire Coop area it is a $64Million project. We are 75% complete. We have $7.8 Million left in mainline construction and $18 Million in drops to the homes. These remaining areas are completed using the following criteria: service issues, distance from a wire center (which impacts what speed you can get over copper) and if customers are willing to pay for additional advanced services. We know you need high-speed internet for your jobs, for your children’s school work, for medical needs, or even for entertainment purposes.
We are working very hard and are committed to having fiber throughout our territory. This is why our non-member areas like Spies, Chatham County, Sanford, Silk Hope and El Dorado are so important. The monthly revenues that come in from non-members support the fiber build within our Cooperative footprint. We would love to have 20 construction crews and be finished in two years, but that is not feasible.
Rural America deserves the same technological services that are available in metropolitan areas. Rural America cannot be left behind and your Coop is doing everything we can to bridge the digital divide in our areas.
